Dear Onibury neighbours,

I’ve just come away from an emergency meeting of the Onibury Jubilee Committee. As many of you will be aware the weather forecast for Sunday is looking grim. We’ve watched, waited, and prayed that it will improve but that now appears not likely to be the case. There are so many components of the day that rely on at least favourable weather conditions. Today we met, discussed, and weighed all our options and have decided the only way in which we can proceed is by modifying our plans. This was done with huge reluctance and no lack of ‘can do’ attitude from the committee members.

Here is the new outline for the day:

We will provide the same number of table places, but these will now be inside and outside of the Village Hall – not on the road or on the school playground. We know that some of you will need to be inside but for many of us, the outside option is a case of making the best of the situation. If you can sit outside, please bring a Gazebo or get to know a family who are bringing a large one!

The day will now include the following with the revised timings shown:on

1030am onwards Opportunity to find (potentially cover) and decorate your table as you would have done before.

1130am Children’s Jubilee Parade – walking to the church and back behind the decorated vintage lorry.

1200 – 1.45pm The Big Picnic at your tables with entertainers as previously described.

1.45pm Prize Draw – some remaining tickets on sale on the day.

2pm approx. RAF Lancaster flypast – weather dependant

Could we please ask you to take note of the following implications?

  • Parking will now be limited to Back Lane and your own friends’ houses (the Road Closure will not now happen). Please try to car share – please let us know if you need help with unloading and transporting your picnics and chairs.

  • The sports, bouncy castle and classic cars cannot go ahead – we will organise an even fuller programme of Onibury Sports events for later in the summer, alongside a village fete (Details TBC)

  • We can offer you a refund for your table space if you require, but of course all donations remain welcome and the profits will continue to be shared between the School, the Church and the Village Hall.

We are all so terribly disappointed that we’ve had to change things. The work and dedication of all the people involved has (and continues to be) been incredible. Although cancelling the event was an option, we hope that you agree that modified arrangements are much better than no event at all.

If you have comments, concerns, or opinions about this, please direct them to me, Mark Bollom 0796074408/ [email protected] as opposed to commenting on what will be busy social media traffic over the coming days.

It’s still going to be a memorable occasion – So we will KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON ADAPT!

Mark Bollom
